What is the Ministry of Transport Type Approval Number?
Agricultural machinery that can be driven on public roads in Japan (tractors, cultivators, combine harvesters, etc.) are all assigned model numbers by the Japanese Ministry of Transport, except for some large machinery. This number is written on a metal or plastic sticker of about W60mm x H25mm, along with the number, manufacturer, and model. We believe that by finding and arranging these numbers, we can understand the history and flow of Japanese agricultural machinery.
Manufacturers often post the history of their products on their web pages. However, they were unrelated and separate, and it was not easy to tell whether product D from manufacturer C was released before product B from manufacturer A, or whether it was released later.
The Ministry of Transport type approval number is reviewed in order of submission, but one number is always assigned to each product. Therefore, if you put them side by side, wouldn’t it be quite helpful to understand the flow of agricultural machinery in Japan as a whole?

We extract, collect and organize Japanese Ministry of Transport Type Approval Numbers daily from auctions and other sources on the web. The goal is to classify Japanese agricultural machinery by age beyond manufacturers. We are still in the middle of the road, but if you have any information, please let us know in the comments or by email. (info/mito-city.com (replace / with @))
